G7 Leaders’ Declaration welcomed the substantial energy policy reforms ongoing in Ukraine and strongly urged it to pursue further ambitious reform of its energy sector
In the context of the ongoing crisis between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, we reiterate that energy should not be used as a means of political coercion or as a threat to security. We welcome the substantial energy policy reforms ongoing in Ukraine, and strongly urge it to pursue further ambitious reform of its energy sector. We also call for enhanced cooperation between the Ukrainian national gas transmission system operator and relevant international peers,` the declaration reads.
Moreover, the G7 leaders encourage the steps Ukraine is taking to implement comprehensive structural, governance and economic reforms and encourage Ukraine to continue and accelerate the process. Ukraine is also urged to maintain and enhance the momentum in its fight against corruption and its judicial reform, including the Prosecutor General's office.
`We reaffirm our commitment to undertake joint efforts with Ukraine to convert the Chornobyl site into a stable and environmentally safe condition, 30 years after the catastrophe,` the declaration reads.
